Haunted House...

For our multi modal reading last week we wrote about a house that is very old fashioned and ratty. This was a very fun task.

Old house, Cross Creek, Lake Wairarapa, Wellington, New Zealand ...

There once was a scary old man who lived in a scary old house. He used to yell and scream at kids for walking past House until one day he just disappeared…

It was April 13th 1987 we walked over to the mailbox and Mr Kipper yelled at me from across the road! We ran away in terror and fright; we never walked to  the mailbox again. Dad always took us to the mailbox in the car. We lived in fright living next to that horrific man until one day we went out and he was gone... He never yelled at us; he never came outside so we called the police to come and see if he was ok because we didn't sign our death wish if he was alive and we walked in no one knew what would happen to us. They came out of the house with a body bag but it was unusual it had something sticking up. Sargent Chris came over and told my parents that he was brutally murdered with at least seven stab marks. My parents asked if they knew when it happened or who did it but that mystery was never solved.

It is now October 23rd and we decided to torch his house as no one had come to claim it so we spread gasoline over it and then threw many light matches on it watching the house burn was a big relief there was no evil man living next to me making me have to be scared of walking to the mailbox. I am so happy that i don't have to worry about that dreaded man

Camp Reflection

In week 5 we were privileged enough to go on a camp we went to Arthur's Pass Outdoor Education Center for the first night and did lots of fun activities like: Walks, Games and many many more. We then ventured to Cheeseman. We planned to leave at around 10 ish but due to weather we didn't leave till 1 o'clock it took us an hour to arrive at the foot of Cheeseman then we drove for what felt like EVER. We arrived at the gate of cheeseman and because of weather Cheeseman was closed so we had to wait for about 30 minutes before we could actually start the next long drive. We had so much fun on camp. we arrived and we unpacked met some of the staff and enjoyed the first day. we played in the snow for a little while but the wind got way to strong so we had to head in. the next day people were skiing and sliding down hills on our little make shift sleds it was an amazing camp.

Fair Trade Poem

In class we have been learning about Fair Trade. We created poems in groups, buddy's or on our own. I worked with Sophie and Tui. We first started out by learning about Fair Trade, we looked at websites and at other students work on Fair Trade. Then we created the poems we could make a acrostic basically any type of poem we wanted. To make our poems have more meaning we actually wrote it on Fair Trade coffee sacks. We were lucky enough that Karen brought us in some delectable Fair Trade chocolate. We looked at Fair Trade packaging there were two different packaging we looked at a banana and a coffee wrapper but most important we looked at the chocolate raper after we devoured it. I think Sophie Tui and my poem worked out good.

Shirleys Car fun Writing

Shirley's Car

It was a cold gloomy day when
Shirley set off to go
start her school day, but she didn't know  what she was
in for...

On the way to school she heard
a faint scream and she
followed the sound until she
reached a crash sight. She
slowly approached the mountain of cars
and rubble.
But it was 8:45am and Shirley was going
to be late if she
didn't go now.

So she skimmed past the crash site
locking eyes with
a woman on a burning car. Her car
lost traction and she
slightly hit the pile of rubble. She didn't
care at this point
and just sped off to go to school
as it was now 8:55am.
She arrived at school and was reminded
of our school values song that she created.
It was the last two lines that made her think
twice about her actions that morning.
“We have the power to make the lives
of others better in
the things we choose to do”.

Shirley is now living with the guilt
of leaving all of
those people to burn and die.

Note To Reader:

Can you believe that this is the type of principal
we have to put up with?!

Waiuta information report

A ghost town called Waiuta

By Eden

Waiuta, once a town full of people and gold miners, now a deserted ghost town. Tony Mangans Family was the last family to leave the town to the ghosts. Years of gold mining for nothing, the town is now just a historical site.

Town Life

By 1930 the towns population had grown to nearly 600. It became well known for its sport teams like rugby league, where the goal posts still stand that were once used often are now just swaying in the breeze. The small town is a popular place to visit because of its amazing location and its historic significance. At the end of the long road was a friendly and inviting town called Waiuta. Due to it being down a long road it was very isolated and alone. The town had all of the facilities and shops they needed to survive.

Miners Phthisis

When gold mining, there are lots of hazardous chemicals and fumes. The miners would inhale lots of quartz dust which gave them an illness called Miners Phthisis. Miners Phthisis is a form of lung complication. This was responsible for many of the miners early deaths, making the population become smaller.

Blackwater Shaft
In 1951 the Blackwater Shaft collapsed. The water and gases could no longer be safely be extracted from the mine shaft, which was now a pile of rubble. The water trapped in the rubble with all the hazardous chemicals was contaminated. The town could no longer consume it. The company decided that the mine was not worth saving and rebuilding. The mine closed and the resident’s abandoned the small town. The Blackwater Shaft is thought to be reopened as the reef in the area is still rich in gold and profitable.

Historic gold town

The small town left for the ghosts is an amazing place to visit. The town has been overgrown by trees and is now turning into a forest again. There are few houses left in the area but Waiuta is a historic tourist attraction for the West Coast.

Writing - Hansel And Gretel

Hansel And Gretel

By Eden And Mary
It was that time again, dad was taking us wood cutting. We always had to in the middle of summer
so that we  had enough wood for the winter. Little did we know this wasn't the normal wood cutting
trip. My brother Hansel and I woke up to the sound of the chainsaw. Dad was obviously checking if
it needed fuel or not. Well I  felt like yelling out it has fuel now SHUT IT! But of course I wouldn't
talk to my father like that but I think Hansel had a different idea. He screamed at the top of his lungs
“WE’RE TRYING TO SLEEP CAN YOU WAIT!!”
“It's time to get up anyway we have to go wood cutting.” We slowly arose, when we were dressed
we walked out to the kitchen where my annoying step mother, who we both hated and she hated us
too, was making breakfast like normal slop in a bowl. Well that's what Hansel and I called it. All
it was is oats but this was HORRIBLE.  When we had finished we walked outside to find a loaf
of bread some water and a pocket knife for each of us. We were confused as to why we had to take
bread and water we were not going to be long. We grabbed our stuff and trekked through the forest
to our fav
orite place and started cutting down the Rata trees. Dad then told us “I am going to get the truck t
o put the wood in. Wait here.”
So we did.

Our dad did not return ever. We decided after two days of walking trying to find our way home that
it was time to give up. We were out of food and water at this point so we were STARVING. I had never
seen Hansel like this before.   He was cold,he was pale and he was giving up.

A sweet aroma filled the air. We followed the sugary scent until we saw a glimpse of a small cottage.
The small worn down building looked like something out of a dream, as we hopped on the uneven
pavement we saw a sugary palace. We came to the house I had tears of joy in my eyes and we started
devouring the corners of the house but we then hear the booming voice of this little hunched lady. We
stopped in fright. I looked at Hansel, I could tell he was scared too. She only saw me.  I was trying to
signal Hansel to hide and run away but he didn't notice. He yelled “Over here granny!”

The short lady turned to Hansel and me and said,
“I am not trying to scare you but I want to know it you want to come in and stop eating my house.”
We looked at each other and decided to go inside.

We followed the old lady inside, then sat at her little glass table. She offered us a glass of milk, we both agreed and skulled it and asked for another. We sat at the table and ate cookies and drank milk, while the witch was throwing wood on the fire. We were talking just Hansel and I about why this random lady was being so kind to us. Then we heard the sound of a door locking, the key snapping, and that was it, we were trapped. The witches booming voice said,
“Well which one of you is older?”
“That would be me,  Gretel.”
“Well Mr Hansel is it, come with me or watch your sister die.”
Hansel slowly arose and followed the witch. He turned back and had tears in his eyes, he mouthed thank you. When the witch had returned she said,
“Now you will cook, clean and do all the housework.”
“Yes mam” I replied.
I started my Chores, I cooked Hansel some lunch it was chicken drumsticks and mashed potato. All I had was bread and butter. When I had finished I had to go back to collect the plate from Hansel. I had a key to open the cage to collect the plates, the witch was always watching me. I always thought that I could free Hansel when she went to bed but I always fell asleep first. I walked in slowly to grab   the plate, tears swelled in my eyes as I turned to Hansel and saw the misery in his eyes.

I couldn’t bare to see him suffer anymore, I had to do something.  I grabbed the key to open the cage and reached for the keyhole. Just as I took two steps towards the cage the hideous beast, aka the witch, woke up.  She ran towards me like the maniac she truly is. I dodged her like she was a bullet. Behind me was all her slaughter tools, I grabbed one of her many razor sharp knives and as she came towards me again I dodged her once more.   As she was lying on the

Which she didn’t have any.  She ran towards me once more, the last thing I saw was her, the witch ate my brother alive...

Weekly Reflection - Wk 8

Week 8 was a very productive week. When we have less structure I think I can manage very well. when I am told what to do I still get it done but I think when I choose what I am going to do I am learning more skills like how to manage and prioritise my work. I make sure that all my work is set up so that I have all of the important learning done. I really enjoy having the time to choose what learning I do and When I do it. With my personal projects I have been working hard and making sure that every problem that could happen what I could do to prevent it from happening.

Reflection - Week 7

This Week was a very fun week with lots of work to be completed. This week we have been gathering in the library and having a school discussion, we talked about how we are all connected and that we can all choose to care and to trust each other. I have been connecting to others in the school. The way I have been connecting is trying to get to know the people i dont know as well as the people I hang out with most days. I think I have been trustworthy and caring for example the other day one of the junior was sitting on the playground on her own and Bridget and I went over and played games with her. Overall Week 7 was a productive week.

Weekly Reflection - Wk 6

SDL or Self Directed Learning is working well and it gives us a little more freedom to do our Personal Inquiry and other work that needs completing. I think I am still on top of things my writing I should have started earlier than what I did but I think I can get it done in time. I am defiantly at SDL trying to get lots of my Personal Inquiry done, I think I have like 3 or 4 different topics that I am doing so I have a lot of work. I think that when people chose their topic or inquiry that they wanted to do something that they have been passionate in for a long time. I know I have. I hope that wk 7 goes as good as wk 6 did.

Vocabulary

We Read A story in class and found words that we didn't know or thought we didn't and searched them up.

Weekly Reflection Week 5

When something is not working for me i will normally go up to dean to ask for help. When there is an issue i will go and ask dean and clearly state what i am meaning. When something changes in class i dont just sit their confused I will accept the change and move on even if i dont like the change. To make sure I adapt to change i will ask questions and try to understand the change. To improve my communication i could try asking someone if they understand what i mean if i ask them a question.
